James Packer Australia’s richest man is believed to have booked out two of the most exclusive and expensive hotels on the French Riviera for his $6 million wedding later this month. James Packer will be marrying model and singer Erica Baxter sometime between June 16th and June 23rd.
Staff at famed celebrity haunt the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc, on the coast between Cannes and Nice, confirmed it was completely booked by a single, super-rich client during that period.
They said the venue was preparing to host some “very special celebrations” mid-June, but would not reveal the host’s name.
Further west along the millionaire’s playground on the shores of the Mediterranean, staff at the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat said an unnamed individual had also booked out their hotel for several days during the period of Mr Packer’s anticipated celebrations.
Local chauffeurs revealed they’d been approached on behalf of an anonymous client to be on stand-by to drive passengers along the spectacular coast to towns including St Jean Cap Ferrat, Nice and Antibes.
A flotilla of yachts, including Mr Packer’s monster Arctic P and his 50m Mangusta cruiser, are also expected to help ferry guests between venues.
The Arctic P, which has left Sydney, is a regular visitor to the Mediterranean at this time of year, when the Packer family traditionally takes a European summer holiday. Hosting guests at a huge marquee for Wimbledon is another family ritual.
Speculation is mounting Mr Packer and Ms Baxter will conduct a ship-board civil ceremony on one of their boats to overcome the French requirement of a 30-day residency for couples who are marrying.
